Simon Williams, known as Wonder Man, first appeared in The Avengers #9 (October 1964).
A businessman whose company, Williams Innovations, was bankrupted by Tony Stark's Stark Industries, Simon accepted an offer from Baron Zemo to undergo an experimental ionic radiation treatment. This process granted him superhuman strength, speed, durability, and energy projection abilities.
Initially intended as a pawn of Zemo to infiltrate and destroy the Avengers, Wonder Man was ultimately reformed by their heroism. He sacrificed himself to save the team, seemingly dying but secretly entering a comatose state.
Eventually revived by the villain Ultron, Wonder Man has become a long-standing hero and member of the Avengers. His ionic form grants him a unique physiology and a complex personal life, often grappling with his past and relationships with other heroes.
